English Walnut and Oak Coffee Table
LL - 123
LL-123 English Walnut Coffee Table with English Oak Base.

Timber – English Walnut, Oak (Rook wood, Yardly Gobion, Northamptonshire) English Walnut (Private garden, Burrington, Somerset)
This slender and elegant coffee table combines the contrasting simplicity of the Oak base with the richness and depth of grain of the English Walnut top and wedges for the tenons.

The English Walnut for this table came from a wonderful supplier in Somerset that specialises in collecting and milling unique, locally sourced trees that are usually un-appealing to large commercial mills but can give wonderful results for furniture makers or clients looking for something a little special. The particular tree was felled from a private garden just outside the village of Burrington. Due to its size and proximity to the house it had to be felled, and rather than being wasted they agreed for the mill to come and collect the tree – now a couple of years later it has started its second life as a coffee table.

The base is made from English Oak, grown and felled in a small patch of woodland on a farm in Yardley Gobion, near to Towcester. The same tree that provided the materials for LL-120.
