The Company

Trace Timber is a small British company dedicated to creating well-crafted timeless designs with dedicated commitment to traceability and provenance. All of Trace Timber’s pieces are fully traceable from “tree to table” giving the users a complete understanding and appreciation of the time, effort and processes undertaken by the tree, the industry and the craftsman. All of Trace’s pieces are designed by the company founder Lars Lauritzen. Lars gained experience through set building, timber framing, building and AV engineering giving him a unique perspective on material and design possibilities. Each piece was made in his Bristol based workshop. Trace Timber is recognised for its heirloom quality, solid wood furniture, all of which are traditionally joined using selected native hardwoods.

Since moving in 2018, Trace Timber has relocated to the edge of Dartmoor, Devon and is now settled among the local community of woodworkers. We have diversified and expanded with the new addition of a Woodmizer Sawmill. The provenance of our timber feels further deeply embedded, and allows for greater flexibility in services and options for timber requirements.

After completing the BM Trada visual timber grading course, Lars is now qualified to BS 5756: 2007 standards which enables us to grade and certify your timber for structural purposes.

As an independent sawmill we understand the importance of sourcing timber sustainably and ethically, and guarantee that all of our wood is traceable and responsibly sourced. Dedicated to providing quality and reliable timber services, we specialize in locally sourced wood and provide our customers with the highest grade of materials at fair and competitive prices.

Founder/History

Lars attended university in the city of Bristol after taking a couple of years to live in Denmark and travel the world. Whilst at university studying entrepreneurship, he found his way into building sets and permanent structures for a few select UK festivals. During this time he saw an opportunity in the quickly growing “boutique camping” market and after he finished his course he set up his first company - The Bespoke Bus Company (the BBC) and built the flagship conversion - Beryl. Beryl was a double decker bus converted into luxury accommodation to be rented out to artists, agents and festival goers. She had a split double staircase leading to three double bedrooms upstairs each with a small music station. Downstairs was an open plan dining, kitchen area with a small toilet cubicle.

After running the company for a few years alongside further set building Lars began to lose his passion for the industry due to the wasteful and temporary nature of the build designs and material choices and decided to sell the bus and change the direction of the company and the name to Bespoke Creations.

Bespoke creations started to undertake much finer works using select materials with design, longevity and quality being the primary considerations. See www.bespoke-creations.co.uk for a portfolio of recent work.

Since running Bespoke Creations for 8 years gaining experience, skills and an even greater passion for trees, wood and other natural materials, Lars has combined his skills and contacts with tree surgeons and other arborists and industry specialists to start making pieces in entirely traceable materials. Hence the birth of Trace Timber.
