Timber – Oak  (Rook wood, Yardley Gobion, Northamptonshire)

A uniquely shaped board from which I machined a large plank for another project, left this beautiful and characterful piece that I could not bring myself to burn or give to the dog. I found the swirling grain patterns mesmerizing and after looking at it for a while the placement of the knot made it easy to see what the piece wanted to be. Finished with black filler and a coat of wax oil was all that was needed to bring this piece to life.
