Oak Dining Table

LL - 120

LL - 120

A large, solid heavy table with beautiful grain features and strong character. All the imperfections and cracks have been brought together with walnut butterfly ties and filled with a black filler to ensure a smooth clean and hygienic finish. The design can be dismantled by simply knocking out the wedges from the tenons and separating into its component parts.

All the timber for this table came from a 200 year old Oak that grew in a small patch of woodland on The Elms Farm, Yardley Gobion. The tree was windblown in a storm 18 years ago. The following year Mr Weston had the timber milled and put in a barn attic where for some time it was left largely forgotten. I then happened to hear of this little treasure hoard through one of my friends over dinner one evening and so made the journey to see the farmer and discover what was there. I was over the moon with what I found in that barn that day, and am equally happy with the end result.

When asked about the tree and whether there were any specific memories he had of the tree/wood Mr Weston recalled of how the small patch of woodland was home to a large Rookery while he was growing up. He and his brothers would go shooting and provide the main ingredients for his Mother’s Rook pie – “A very strong and somewhat acquired taste” he recalled while he grimaced through a smile. After this glowing report – he offered me the recipe which now will come with the table for those adventurous enough to try.
