Timber - chocolate Oak – The residence of the Beefsteak fungus ( nr Lulworth, Dorset)

This little box was made from a piece of wood that I rescued from a man at a festival site. The man was chopping firewood for his burner and had no idea how special this timber was. We made a deal that if I brought him some replacement wood that he could burn then he would give me these beautiful pieces. Now polished, we can all see just quite how beautiful this wood is. A regular piece of Oak, but the tree was infected with a beefsteak fungus that has a strange effect on the wood, darkening and defining the grain to a whole new level of intricacy and beauty almost like wooden marble. Unfortunately I cannot guarantee the provenance of this timber, but was led to believe it came from a local mill in the Lulworth (Dorset) area that mills predominantly locally sourced trees.
